System vs Application software

Software is a set of instructions, data or programs used to operate computers and execute specific tasks what is given by the operator.software is opposite of hardware.

We will discuss about two type of software.They are:
1.System software
2.Application software

System software:

System software is a type of computer program that is designed to run a computer’s hardware and Application system.The operating system (OS) is the best-known example of system software therefore the OS manages all the other programs in Computer.

Additionally, system software can also include system utilities, such as the disk rearrangements and system restore, and development tools, such as Compilers and Debuggers.

Application software:

Application software is a computer software package that performs a specific function for an end user.Moreover in some instances it works for another application.

Microsoft Word is a popular word-processing application that is included in the list of application software.We make presentation PDF assignments and keep notes by these applications.

                                                                     Adobe Photoshop:
We do photo editing or logo designing by this.

VLC Media Player;
We watch videos by accessing this.

 

System vs application software:

Usage ;System software is used to manage and control the computer hardware and application software and Application software performs specific tasks depending on how it has been designed.

Installation;System software is installed into the computer when the operating system is being installed on the other hand Application software is installed only when a user needs them.

Execution time ;It will continue running until the time that you will turn off your computer.As a matter of fact Application software will run only when required to do so.

Complexity ;Application software will run only when required to do so but programming of application software is not that complex.

Supercomputer:

The highly calculative and extremely intensive tasks are handled by super computers.They are capable to process trillions of calculations per second.They have the best memory capacity among all computers.They are used for weather forecasts,quantum physics,space programs etc where trillions of data is calculated and stored.the performance of super computer is commonly measured in floating point operations per second (FLOPS) instead of million instructions per second.

 Mainframe computer:

These computers are used by large organizations for critical applications and huge data processing.these are mostly used by the government and large scale businesses.They are kept in climate controlled rooms and have multiple operating systems.It has strict backward compatibility with older software.they are larger and have more processing power than some other classes of computers ; minicomputers; servers; workstations;and personal computers.

 

Mini computer:

  

Mini computers were very popular during 1970-1980.they were used widely by medium and small scale business like school offices.they were called the third generation computers and took up the space like a refrigerator and would take and were useful for storing small amount of data.

A micro computer is a small , relatively inexpensive computer with a microprocessor as it's central processing unit(CPU).It includes a microprocessor, memory and minimal input/output circuitry mounted on a single printed circuit board (PCB).It became popular in the 1970s and 1980s with the powerful microprocessor.many micro computers are personal computers.

Personal computers:

A PC can be defined as a small, relatively inexpensive Computer designed for an individual user.At home the most popular use for personal computers is playing Games and surfacing the internet.

Workstation:

Workstation is a computer used for engineering applications, desktop publishing, software development and other such types of applications which require a moderate amount of computing power and relatively high quality graphic s capabilities.
